I’m a weird kind of gamer. I like a lot of games, but only casually. But when it comes to Elder Scrolls, well… there’s nothing casual about that. Many years ago, my then-husband offered me a copy of Morrowind, with an explicit warning: this game will eat your life. And that time, I had plenty of obsessions. Black and White 2, bellydance, Firefly, writing, hiking… so I said no, thanks.
Then Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion came out, and it looked entirely too awesome to pass up. I played it for years. Then I built a whole new computer to play Skyrim. And again, I played it for years.
But… times change, and so do games. Elder Scrolls Online came out. I wanted to try it, but heard it kind of sucked, so stayed happily in Skyrim. Until, of course, I heard that ESO was updated and fixed so people could access the entire world instead of being locked into their little Alliance. Not to mention it had shifted over to where you didn’t have to subscribe, and I built a kick-ass new computer. I finally tried it, thinking I’d play kind of casually, just enough to justify the cost of the base game, then go back home to Skyrim.
Uh, wrong answer. Try again.
What actually happened was it hooked me almost immediately and totally sucked me into the world of Tamriel even more than the other two games did. Not only did it eat my life, it ate an awful lot of my money. Including, I’m embarrassed to say, a couple times when I dumped money into the game rather than paying bills or buying groceries. *blush*
Anyway, the obsession is what led me to this current project. I like to write, but lately all my fiction has been going into some very dark places, and I’m not too fond of writing constant bleakness and destruction. I have a blog I want to do more with. I love acquiring and decorating houses in ESO. Put that all together, and you get what I’m about to start doing: blog posts about my ESO housing projects. 🙂 Yay!
And people, I thoroughly understand if that’s not your cup of tea. I will also continue posting other stuff, including but not limited to artwork, queer fiction promos, and animal related stuff.
